When it comes to clothes staples on my wardrobe there’s definitely one major item I have FAR too many of, skinny jeans!
It’s an item of clothing I seem to wear practically every single blooming day. Now, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that. But it comes to something when you three pairs of the exact same jeans!
I’ve worn jeans since I was about thirteen, as I was paranoid about my ‘thunder thighs’ which were only visible to my thirteen year old self might I add!
Nevertheless, as a result I lacked confidence to wear any skirts or dresses so River Island jeans and a tee became my go to style.
However, since I’ve grown up and lost some of my puppy fat I now only wear skinny jeans as opposed to unflattering straight jeans.
When I first started buying them back I was thirteen and my dad probably bought them, I went straight to River Island thinking because they were expensive they’d make me look good. I bought the slouchy ones and the straight ones which just hid my shape completely and made me look so frumpy. After that, I went to New Look and this was when I first had the confidence to try skinny jeans. After a year or so of size 12’s I realised I was actually a lot smaller in my leg and went for the size 10’s however the fit and cut still wasn’t right for me and I felt just as unflattering in these.
Around by the time of my second and third year of uni I discovered Dorothy Perkins jeans. As I had started going the gym everyday and eating quite healthy I noticed I was once again buying the wrong size of jeans and so I bought myself a size 8 pair! I know madness!
I thought these jeans were perfect as they made my legs look slim and bum look seriously pert however after a couple of washes the fabric looked worn and tight around the crotch area and I knew I would once again need to carry on looking for MY pair of jeans.
Once I left uni and moved to Cardiff I decided I’d give Topshop jeans ago, I’d heard so many of my friends rave about them so I thought I’d give them a go! The only thing that put me off was the size measurements as they go in waist and length and general body size. With nothing to lose I tried on quite a few different shapes and measurement. I spent about three hours in there, I didn’t know if the changing room attendant thought I was a thief or if I was just insane to be honest…
I found the Jamie Jeans to be most flattering with their elastic making them feel light and gently covering your leg size attractively. I bought two pairs and never looked back.
Fast forward a year and a bit later. I only buy jeans from Topshop, I prefer their cuts, price and styles. I now wear the Leigh style jeans as the Jamie sometimes gets a little tight after too much dinner. It’s a slightly thicker material but they’re the most comfortable pair of jeans I’ve ever worn! And there you go, my jean story! Like I aid it took years of buying the wrong styles for me to find my perfect pair but I got there in the end.
