Going After My Dreams: Opportunities are Everywhere

When I was a kid, I remember thinking ambition was a dirty word and that ambitious people were ruthless and mean. I now know that’s not true.

Up until a few months ago I was never an ambitious person. When my mum died that changed. I suddenly realised that in order to achieve everything I wanted to I needed to go out and grab my dreams by the horns. Opportunities are everywhere (isn’t it lovely how that feeds back to the title?!) I realised and alls that was standing in my way was myself.

After a quick Google search I found a few courses and events in Manchester which is only a forty minute train journey away and with that I got myself out there. At my first scriptwriting course I attended the tutor recommend the masters degree in Scriptwriting at Salford University, I was hesitant to apply as it was so close to the start of the course and I thought I wouldn’t be able to afford it. However, after properly researching I discovered it was a lot more affordable than I first thought and after submitting some of my script work the course director fast tracked and gave me an interview a day later!

He offered me a place on the course there and then. The masters is part time so I can still work and do other projects and I’m so happy as its a gateway to lots of networking and other opportunities.

I’ve also got more courses and exciting things coming up in the next few months which I’m excited about. These include; a stand up comedy course, my first stand up at the Women in Comedy Festival, a comedy writing course in London and another script treatment day with Scriptwriting North. Like I said, alls I did was a simple Google search and I found all these opportunities!

I’m so excited for what I’ve got coming up in the next few months and of course I will keep you all up to date in this blog! I know it’s not exactly anything massive like me going on tour with an amazing comedian or getting one of my scripts developed by Channel 4 but I know these courses and opportunities can help me and push me and hopefully move me onto bigger and better platforms.

Anyway, that’s all u wanted to say! I hope this post has given you guys an insight into how I found the opportunities I’ve currently got happening in my life and hopefully inspired you to go out and found some yourself! Until next time!
