My Skincare Routine

Now I’ll happily admit to you guys that over the years I’ve suffered from my fair bit of skin woes.

I think it’s only natural for all teenagers to develop some sort of skin complaint (and if you didn’t you were seriously the luckiest kid in the world). My skin was awful and I’m not even exaggerating. I first started getting the odd pimples on my forehead when I was in primary school So I made the catastrophic decision to start cleansing with soap and then it got worse. By the time I was in secondary school the pimples had spread to my whole face and were a lot worse. I remember once I tried to pop some on my cheek and ended up leaving a huge red mark on my face. I was so embarrassed I told my friends at school I had burnt my face whilst frying sausages!

In those years I used to spend every Saturday in Boots trying to find products that would help my poor skin. I think I practically went through the whole skincare section during this time. I tried ClearasilNeutrogenaT-ZoneSimple, you name it.

However, I discovered the only thing that truly helped me and sadly this is the truth for most impatient teenage girls, time. As I aged I learnt to take better care of my skin, eat well, drink lots of water and find products that don’t harm my skin but leave it feeling cleansed, toned and moisturized. Thankfully, I have now found products that work for my skin type (too bad its only taken ten blooming years!)

I follow the beauty rule of a three step skincare routine, that is;

  1. Cleanse
  2. Tone
  3. Moisturize

To Cleanse I use the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel. I used to use the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish  Hot Cloth Cleanser but found the product was too creamy for me. Oskia is a gel like formula so it leaves my skin feeling less heavy after cleansing, it also contains a broad range of vitamins which leave me feeling rejuvenated in the mornings when I look like absolute shit. I tend to use one pump, rub it all in and then I take a damp cloth and gently exfoliate the product off.

To Tone I use the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner. Now I’ll admit I never used to used toner as I never thought it was that important of a step in my skincare routine. However, after a skin consultation I discovered that my skin was uneven and under hydrated even after I moisturized. I love the Kiehl’s toner as it’s gentle with no alcohol and I feel like it helps restore the surface texture of my skin. I usually splash a few drops onto a cotton pad and dab gently.

To Moisturize and give me that ‘just had a facial glow’ at the end of my skincare routine I use the Estee Lauder Daywear Advanced Creme in terms of moisturizer I know its quite expensive but I honestly believe you get what you pay for with this product. This product is very nourishing for the skin and also has SPF 15 which helps protect my skin from sun damage. I’ve had my pot for six months now, so it doesn’t cost that much in terms of how long it lasts.

So that’s it! My complete skincare routine. I hope this post has helped any of you guys that also struggling to find the right skincare routine. Believe me guys, you’ll get there in the end!
