The abs in the picture above aren’t mine, don’t get me wrong I bloody wish they were and I do try my hardest but then there’s the temptation of my fave foods. If you follow me on any social media, you’ll already know I’m a sucker for the sweet stuff, the savoury stuff, all the stuff really! I’m pretty sure my instagram bio goes something like; “my two favourite food groups are bread and chocolate”.
Nevertheless, I consider myself to be quite the gym goer with a pretty good routine. My one downfall is my love of food. I’m one of those people who find it really hard to stick to a diet plan especially when it comes to eating out, the idea of eating the same meals day in and out just makes me shudder. After all, variety is the spice of life!
With all of this said, I still long to have some smokin’ hot abs on the beach this summer so I guess what I’m really trying to achieve is abs without giving up my appetite, the old ‘have your cake and eat it’ scenario (in this case quite literally).
My plan so far has been sticking to healthy eating in the week and having a treat at the weekend (pizza Saturday anyone?) Of course, that means all the hard work I do in the week goes to waste with one mouthful of pizza. Groan…
So then I have to work even harder in the next week and the vicious cycle continues..so what do I do? I’ve tried healthy pizza alternatives in the past, its not that they weren’t successful, they just never compared to the real deal,the pizza I made had a thin butternut squash base and green pesto sauce (Domino’s would beat it in a fight any day)
For me, when it comes to my abs I do a combination of different exercises, this was a tip I picked up from Carly Rowena who swears her abs are down to treating them a bit like a rotisserie chicken.
I usually use weights when doing abs work or a bosu ball as it challenges balance as well. I’ve recently tried using the TRX bands to mix it up a little. They’re hard work and really get my heart pumping, in fact they often make me feel ill but your abs feel it so much afterward that its just worth the pain.
After a heavy abs workout I don’t particularly like the idea of eating carbs straight away so I often have some fruit or maybe eggs to just build the muscle a little. Me and the boyfriend often eat late so eating anything too heavy on my stomach just leaves me feeling bloated. In the weekend, I workout in the morning so I can eat whatever I like for Dinner (usually pizza).
I do struggle to eat for my abs at the weekend as my eating relaxes a lot but I find I can still eat my favourite snack type food as long as I make little alterations (and before you ask no, I don’t have butternut squash pizza that’s one mistake I’m not making again! I mean it was ok, but If I’m eating pizza I’m having the real deal). Anyway, back to the topic at hand when it comes to snacks I love my guacamole dip with Dorito’s. One way I’ve made this healthier yet still satisfying is by having the guacamole with pitta chips instead of Dorito’s (and as I love Pitta chips already its not really a compromise) I wrote about how I make Pitta chips in yesterday’s blog so if you’re interested give that a little read!
Anyway that’s one way I still eat pretty healthily to get toned abs at the weekend but now I think I’m gonna do some day dreaming about Pizza…..
