So if you’re anything like me than you and your skin have been through an awful lot together. Remember them Clearasil Days?! I’m not going to lie, at times I hated my skin and I’m pretty sure my skin hated me. I was either covered in red blotchy pimples or it was that dry that my face could be used for sandpaper.
However, nowadays we’ve reached an understanding and get on pretty well. If I’m honest, I think bad skin during your teenage years is a right of passage. It happens and we have to deal with it. Now I’m in my twenties I’m happy to say my skin has calmed down partially thanks to time and also because I now know how to properly take care of my skins needs. Don’t get me wrong I still have the odd breakout but its nowhere near as bad as it was when I was fifteen.
So I thought I’d share with you guys my daily skincare routine that works for me and my skin and maybe it’ll be helpful!
I usually wake up in the morning and use my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. I’ve been using for about five months now so I can honestly recommend this product to anyone with annoying combination skin like myself. As it acts as both a cleanser and gentle exofoliater it’s that perfect in between product that clears and smoothes. Liz Earle has become a pretty well known beauty brand in the last year or so, admired for their philosophy on using natural ingredients and this product is no exception. In fact it’s quite the multi award winner, which is what attracted me to it in the first place. I can honestly say this product changed my skin so much that I haven’t even looked at any other cleansers since.
The cleanser has a creamy texture to it which instantly nourishes and hydrates your skin, you then grab the cloth and run it under hot water before gently rubbing the cream off with it. I bought a pack which contained a 100ml bottle and two muslin clothes from Boots for around £15, back in October last year and the bottle is still going strong now! Making it brilliant value for money!
After cleansing I usually go straight into moisturising, I don’t do toning or anything like that. I tried it for years and realised that it just wasn’t working for my skin, it often dried it up and then the mousturiser I used would just leave me feeling greasy. Some people need to use toner, which I completely understand however I steered clear and found my skin was fine without it.
To moisturise I use Simple kind to skin Hydrating light Moisturiser. I know it’s not exactly high end or anything fancy but after after a recommendation from a friend I decided to give it a try and I’ve never looked back! It took me years to find mousturiser that actually mousturised my skin, I used Origins Mega Mushroom for about six months and it just felt heavy and itchy on my skin. I tried Eau Thermale Avene hydrance optimale Riche despite not being able to pronounce it properly for another five months and even that just left my skin feeling tight and dry!
However, something in the Simple moisturiser seems to be working as my skin has never felt so fresh and moisturised. What’s brilliant about this product is that the only products really used in it are vitamins, there are no nasty chemicals or artificial colours used, it literally is the simplest product! Lightly hydrating my skin without being too thick and clogging up my pores. I swear sometimes the best products are the ones with the fewest ingredients.
Finally, the last product I use is the Clinique all about eyes Riche. If you’re no stranger to my blog then you’ll already know how much I love this product, it’s literally given me back my eyes from when I was sixteen (well, I can wish). I only started using eye cream this year as I noticed my concealer just wasn’t covering up my dark circles from one too many late nights. I’d also like to think I’ve got a head start on aging gracefully by creaming up now! Although this product is called Riche it doesn’t leave you with greasy under eyes, instead it intensely mousturises the area to diminish the look of those shadowy dark circles that ruin perfectly nice selfies!
And that’s my everyday skin care routine! Nothing fancy, nothing too crazy just three products that I use together to keep my skin healthy and fresh. Of course, one last thing I will add if your a teenager suffering with your skin like I did is..Don’t worry! Time is the only proven skincare which truly works!
